Why didn’t David punish Amnon for raping Tamar?

New Testament

Did Pilate want to crucify Jesus? Why did he finally agree to do so?
Pilate wrote the title to be placed on the cross, “JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.” The chief priests of the Jews told Pilate, the title should actually read “he said, I am King of the Jews.” John 19:19-21. Which title was more accurate?

Discussion Questions:
Old Testament

In 1 Samuel 31:1-7, Saul and his armor-bearer were overtaken by their enemies in battle, and each fell on his own sword to kill himself. Did the armor-bearer act correctly when he refused Saul’s order to kill him. Are these death’s properly called “suicide?” How do they compare to the death of Samson in Judges 16:30?
God himself called David “a man after his own heart.” 1 Samuel 13:14. How do we reconcile God’s proclamation with the terrible sins committed by David?

New Testament

What was the significance of the chief priests’ desire to kill Lazarus, who had been raised from the dead? John 12:9-11.
Why was it that most of the people did not believe in Jesus, even though he had performed so many miracles right before them? John 12:37-43.

Discussion Questions:
Old Testament
A medium consulted Samuel as demanded by Saul. Is this story proof that ghosts (i.e. the disembodied spirits of the dead) really do exist?
New Testament
The story of Lazarus is the second story in this week’s readings about a dead man being brought back from the grave. But how is the story of Lazarus DIFFERENT than the story of the medium who established contact with Samuel?
