They completed an initial phase in 2018, when they added a patio. They were ready to move into the next phase when COVID-19 hit in 2020. COVID abated, but more delays followed, including the construction of the city’s Tunnel Top Plaza next door, which limited access to the house for two years. The park... Read More

DeSantis kisses Trump’s ring, and it might pay off | Editorial

Eventually, they kiss the ring. Republican after Republican who criticized, denounced and rejected Donald Trump over the years can now be seen fawning over the former president. Most famously in Florida, there was U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio — whom Trump called “Little Marco” during the 2016 presidential primary. There’s Miami U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez, who eight years ago said he would vote for Hillary Clinton because Trump was not ”viable as a presidential candidate,” but now can be... Read More

Finding a (Real) Christian College

A professor explains why examining a school’s doctrinal statement isn’t enough. When I speak at churches around the country, the conversation after my talks often turns to the state of Christian higher education. I’m a professor at a Christian institution, and Christian parents and grandparents want to know where high school graduates can go to have their faith deepened rather than undermined. These concerns have only become more pressing given the ongoing rise in young people... Read More

Particular Wrongs Need Particular Remedies

Every sin requires Christ’s atonement. But the Bible shows God punishing—and repairing—different sins differently. Christian theology consistently holds together truths that seem to want to fall apart: Jesus is fully God and fully human. People are sinners and created in the image of God. The church is local and universal. And yet, despite what we affirm, in practice, Christians are often unable to walk and chew gum at the same time. Instead of holding two truths in tension,... Sticker shock in Fort Lauderdale: Tunnel Top Plaza cost taxpayers close to $13 million

FORT LAUDERDALE — The artificial turf zone along Las Olas known as Tunnel Top Plaza cost taxpayers nearly $12.7 million — an extra $2 million more than expected. City officials hoped the pricey addition would transform the area that sits atop the U.S. 1 tunnel into a trendy gathering spot. But some residents, including the mayor, are less than impressed with the current bunker-like look. Tunnel Top Plaza, the new pedestrian plaza that sits above the Henry E. Kinney tunnel on Federal...
