ASK LOIS: Shouldn’t locals get tee-time priority on Palm Beach County’s golf courses?

Q: Why doesn’t Palm Beach County give priority to its residents vs. nonresidents when making tee times at the county’s golf courses? Don’t our tax dollars pay for the courses? Nonresidents get the same privileges as residents for a fee of $84 more a year. Unfair. — Don Lachs, Boynton Beach A: Don, getting a morning tee time at a Palm Beach County-owned golf course has become nearly as hard as landing a Taylor Swift ticket. They are almost impossible to obtain, but if you find... Maamoul: The Easter Sweet Loved by Muslims, Christians, and Jews

Experts debate the origin of the date- or nut-filled pastry, but Middle Eastern believers love the taste and the Good Friday symbolism in its shapes. The Middle East’s favorite sweet symbolizes Good Friday. Maamoul is a buttery cookie baked with semolina and stuffed with dates or nuts—usually walnuts or pistachios. By Friday morning the front will have passed, making way for cooler dry air to move in from the northwest. Temperatures at night... Read More

Floridians will soon be able to buy larger — much larger — bottles of wine in retail stores

Sitting in front of a wall of wine and flanked by enormous wine bottles, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Thursday that permits the retail sale of much larger bottles of wine in Florida. The measure was sponsored by state Rep. Chip LaMarca, R-Lighthouse Point, and DeSantis signed it into law at a Fort Lauderdale wine store in LaMarca’s district. Good Friday’s Answers to Wounded Church Members

Christ’s crucified body holds the pain experienced by the church body. I serve as a priest in an Anglican church in Dallas, and I have the privilege and responsibility of pastoring many people who have experienced pain at the hands of a church. Some in our congregation have been outright abused. Some have had their faith shaken by the fall of a leader. Some have been pushed out of congregations for asking legitimate questions. And while church hurt may not always be the best term to name... Read More

Standing at the rail on the upper deck of The Shorely, a 499-capacity ferry permanently docked at Fort Lauderdale’s Bahia Mar Yachting Center, developer Jimmy Tate gazes around, smelling the sea-salted air. “Here’s why our ferry is special: No one can ever block this view,” Tate says, gesturing toward the Intracoastal Waterway, with its nautical painting of megayachts against the backdrop of Fort Lauderdale’s downtown skyline. “Or this one,” he says, spinning around, his arms...
